Link is a 3 week internship where students are given the chance to intern at a establishment of their choice. this could vary from trail work to working as a doctor at hospital. i chose to do it at Manna Soup Kitchen where i was working as a cook for the 3 week duration.
Link Reflection:
The skills coming into my link were having a work ethic knowing if I'm going to do a job I must do it well knowing that I was working in a restaurant. I also came in with just good cleaning and cooking skills needed for restaurant work. for example, being able to cut food in specific ways to make for a fast and precise cut and regular cleaning skills like scrub brushing the floor, and sanitizing everything. I developed more professional skills when communicating with higher-ups who deserve the respect they deserve. I believe the number of things we would do on a daily made it for the higher up chefs to have more time to do the important things rather than having to spend a few hours closing the kitchen as well as daily dishes and small things that all makeup for a harder days work in the kitchen. I would say it prepared me with more skills moving into possible restaurant careers however it just gave me a sense of what some people go through on a daily this could include a struggle with travel severe mental illness and possible drug/substance abuse. This gives me some ideas of how I can make helping people with these issues into a career later in life. I really enjoyed this internship and i hope we were able to encourage seanan and mitch to welcome future animas students to mannas kitchen in the following years.
For our project we created a list of daily chores/tasks in order to close and open the kitchen. depending on the day of the week we would alter the list to better the efficiency and cleanliness of the kitchen. this was done every day of LINK and we wouldn't leave until the list is finished and double checked.
